Johnston County Crash Causes Power Outage

BENSON – A collision between a farmworker bus and a pickup truck Friday evening has a number of homes without power and shut down a busy roadway.

The crash occurred around 6:00 p.m. on NC Highway 96 South at Noah Road, just north of Interstate 40, in the Meadow community.

According to initial reports, a northbound farm bus and a southbound black Chevy pickup collided. The impact sent the pickup off the right shoulder, where it struck a utility pole head-on. The pole fell onto the truck, sparking a fire.

Firefighters from Meadow Fire Department responded quickly and extinguished the blaze. Only one person reportedly sustained injuries.

Duke Energy reports approximately 60 customers in the area are currently without power due to the downed pole.

NC Highway 96 South is expected to remain closed for several hours Friday evening as crews work to clear the scene and restore service.

Blackman’s Crossroads Fire Department is assisting with traffic control, and the State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.

  1. I hope for the farmer the person driving the bus was legal bc people of this area know where the migrant houses are. Well I live within a major leaguer baseball throw away and watched them let’s say vacate that area as fast as Olympic runners. Hope everyone was/is ok. And thanks to Duke power maybe just being selfish but those guys worked fast as h*ll to restore our power. First responders and linemen never get the respect they deserve.
