Sampson County SROs Receive Lifesaving Trauma Kits And Training

SAMPSON COUNTY – On October 15, School Resource Officers (SROs) with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office received advanced trauma response kits and specialized training, enhancing their ability to respond to emergencies in school settings. The effort was funded through the federal Project ACTIVATE grant, administered by Sampson County Schools.
Through close collaboration between Project ACTIVATE Director Andrea Rouse and the Sheriff’s Office, the initiative secured $9,600 in funding, resulting in the delivery of 20 Mass Trauma Kits and 20 Individual Trauma Kits, along with professional trauma response training.

“Project ACTIVATE allows me to work directly with our School Resource Officers to ensure they have the tools and training needed to protect and support the wellness of our schools,” said Rouse. “I truly value each and every SRO in Sampson County—they stand head and shoulders above others, demonstrating both talent and open-mindedness in their work.”
The training was conducted by Rescue Essentials, a Leland-based company specializing in emergency preparedness and trauma care. Officers were instructed in critical lifesaving techniques intended to address serious or life-threatening injuries on-site.

Sheriff Jimmy Thornton expressed his appreciation for the initiative. “I want to thank Andrea for her hard work in obtaining these valuable tools and training for my staff. I appreciate the partnership we have with Sampson County Schools. Investments like this directly enhance the Sheriff’s Office’s ability to respond effectively in crisis situations within our schools and keep our children and staff safe.”
The partnership underscores a proactive approach to school safety, equipping officers with the necessary tools and knowledge to respond swiftly and effectively to emergency situations.
