Repairman Accused Of Theft From Homeowner

BENSON – A 25-year-old Angier man, Cameron Elijah Hairston, is facing criminal charges after allegedly stealing from a Johnston County homeowner during a fake appliance repair visit.
The 21-year-old victim, who lives in the McGee’s Crossroads area, hired Hairston through the NextDoor app in May 2025 to repair her washing machine. Hairston reportedly asked for money to buy parts and then left the home—allegedly taking four of the victim’s rings worth $650. He later returned three of the rings and apologized but never completed the repair, authorities allege.
Hairston was arrested on August 6 and charged with misdemeanor larceny and felony obtaining property by false pretense. Authorities say this isn’t his first incident. In June 2025, he was arrested for allegedly scamming another woman in the Cleveland community while posing as a plumber, also found through the NextDoor app.
He is being held on a $5,000 secured bond following his latest arrest.
