Drug Bust Near High School: Habitual Felon Arrested

BENSON – A 70-year-old man was arrested after narcotics agents uncovered a significant drug operation at a home near West Johnston High School.
Danny “Catfish” Vester Mozingo, of N. Pleasant-Coates Road in the McGee’s Crossroads area, was taken into custody on October 17 after the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division executed a search warrant at his residence. The arrest followed an ongoing investigation into suspected drug activity at the location.
During the search, deputies seized approximately 170 grams of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $17,000. Investigators also recovered marijuana, Xanax, prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm.

The residence is located just a short distance from West Johnston High on Raleigh Road, prompting additional charges due to the home’s proximity to a school zone.
Mozingo was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, manufacture and delivery of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Online records show Mozingo is a convicted habitual felon with a long criminal history of drug-related offenses dating back to 1981.
He is currently being held in the Johnston County Detention Center under a $525,000 secured bond.
