Benson Resident Begins Peace Corps Service

WASHINGTON – Anna Hill of Benson has been accepted into the Peace Corps. Hill will depart for Indonesia on September 24 to begin training as an English teacher and teacher trainer.

Anna Hill

Hill is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

“I decided to join the Peace Corps due to my deep desire to serve and interest in learning more about cultures around the world. I hope to have a greater understanding of how education is valued and taught in Indonesia, as well as understand similarities and differences my new community has with my hometown,” said Hill.

English teacher and teacher trainers support development of students’ English communication skills, and increase their access to academic/professional opportunities.

Hill joins the 121 North Carolina residents currently serving in the Peace Corps. More than 4,949 residents from North Carolina have served in the Peace Corps since 1961.

Peace Corps volunteers serve in host communities for two years following three months of training and receive a living stipend, housing, extensive language and technical training, and financial benefits that can include graduate school fellowships after service.

  1. Anna, I hope you do well. I’m nearing the end of my 27 months… but I love serving and will be staying bc a third year… in Kosovo… in the Balkans of Eastern Europe. PST is not much fun, but once you get to your site, you’ll begin loving helping people.
