Stolen Property Listed Online Leads To Arrest In Kenly Break-In

KENLY – A break-in at a vacant residence outside Kenly has led to the arrest of a suspect, after stolen property was found listed for sale on social media.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gary Wayne Johnson, 53, of Micro Road West, Selma, in connection with the theft. He was taken into custody on October 3 and charged with felony breaking and entering and two counts of felony larceny.

The incident was reported on September 17, when the property owner discovered that someone had broken into a house on Creech Church Road and stolen approximately $11,650 worth of items. Among the items reported missing were two lawnmowers, two air compressors, a pressure washer, generator, backpack leaf blower, and a weed eater.

Investigators received a break in the case when the victim spotted some of the stolen property being offered for sale on Facebook Marketplace. Deputies were able to recover about $1,850 worth of stolen goods during the investigation.

Johnson was booked into the Johnston County Detention Center under a $60,000 secured bond.

The case remains under investigation.

  1. The victim is not even the ‘ property owner’. She thought she would be but maybe the someone better read that Last will and testament for the property. Funny that some of the alleged stolen property is list on her FB marketplace as SOLD.

  2. Funny how people are so quick to throw something on someone with no proof. Specially when they were not even on the property. People have nothing to do in their life but try and put blame on other people. There was no property even seized or found during the investigation.

  3. Wow to steal and then post it online for sale. You have got some nerve. I am glad the person got some of there items back. A thief will always be a thief. Get a job and stop taking from hard working people.

    • If you don’t know the whole story you should not even comment because this story is far from the truth. The victim posted this stuff on her Facebook for sale and then try to put blame on someone else. The property was not hers to begin with. And to say once a thief always a thief. Don’t be so quick to judge someone. Only god can judge. People change everyday. Maybe you should take a look in the mirror because no one is perfect.

  4. Ive known Gary for over 35 years and this article was a shock to me because he may be some things but a thief isn’t one of them. Sometimes the media and public opinion can be far worse than facing a judge. I hope and pray that everything works out for everyone.

    • I have known this family just as long if not a tad bit longer. I suggest you look at his NC offender record – and that is just the records of convictions. While no one is sin free in this world – there are those of us that learn from past mistakes, or learn from family members making mistakes. Many times you only know what a person wants you to know about them….or what you want to see. They certainly were not the wildest boys in Micro – but if you lived there – you knew them and what they were capable of. Parents and grandparents can only do so much after they get to a certain age.
If nothing he did was wrong, as some are suggesting, then hopefully the justice system will work as it is suppose to. The burden of proof is on the state after all….

      • You always seem to know a lot about everything and everyone. You even seem to know the parents and their political affiliations, perhaps you should run for Sheriff.

        • Political affiliations in JoCo are a fairly easy guess – it is a red county – I can’t even name 10 democrats off the top of my head. There are more and more unaffiliated voters in seems. But if it makes you feel better – I don’t know what Gary is registered as – I didn’t look.

I have known most of the older Johnson siblings – so Gary’s aunts and uncles – since the 1980s. I watched the younger ones grow and become parents themselves – some are grandparents now. As strange as it may seem to some people, there was a time when people were friends and hung out together and knew each other. Life takes you in different directions as you get older, but you still know and care about them. You still hug them when you see them at the store and you still wish them well when You hear about them going through a devastating disease, or a terrible tragedy in the family. You don’t have to see someone every day to want the best for someone.

      • Ahhh, the holier than thou, always sitting on their perch and judging the rest from their moral high ground while sifting through through the labels and records that are etched into a man by a system more corrupt than in the days of Noah.

        • Not holier than thou – just in the gutter with the rest – but once in a while I crawl out and get a breath of fresh air. One has to learn their lesson from making a mistake or else it becomes a choice. I choose to have my mistakes be mistakes and not a choice. I’ve made many, many mistakes in my life and I’ve learned from them. I think that is the difference. I see many of the same people in the mugshots that I know personally or from going out and about in my daily life, making the same choices and never learning – for whatever reason whether it’s due to addiction or other life struggles. I truly do want to help people – I always have and probably always will. At some point they have to want to help themselves and I’m not talking about Gary at all. I have not seen or talked to him a few years. I think the world of his parents, his sister, His extended family members cousins – We have all had great times and great memories throughout the years.
I don’t know why telling the truth is seen as holier than thou. But here we are. I have done plenty of stupid things over my many decades of life – but I own my mistakes. If you are going to do dumb stuff and then deny it when you get caught – you’re just a coward. It has nothing to do with being holier than thou.

          • I can’t argue with that. We all grew up in the same circles and I too knew the family well and feel the same about them. I always knew Gary to be someone who wouldn’t pass up a good fight but like many, drugs have made people go to places that would break their own book of rules and make them make choices that they never would have made when they were clean. I don’t know the story, I just never knew thst the person I knew at one time had fallen this far and thought that he was making a better way now. My apologies for the harshness, it just hit me wrong because I do care. I hope and pray that Gary gets it right soon and for his family and the people affected. Many of us made bad choices in the past and have completely turned around but sometimes people label you that for the rest of your life and sometimes thats not deserving. That’s where I thought we were but maybe I was wrong and if I was, my apologies.
