Fraudsters Steal Money Three Times From Same Victim

JOHNSTON COUNTY – An elderly Four Oaks woman was victimized three times by fraudsters posing as FBI agents.

In May 2025, the victim received a pop up alert indicating there 13 viruses on her personal computer. The pop up provided a phone number to call for assistance.

The victim called the number and was told her social security number had been exposed and she was transferred to speak with an FBI agent named “Jack” who would help her.

The FBI impersonator asked the victim to withdraw $20,000 from the bank and he would pick up the money from her Johnston County home. The victim withdrew $15,000 – not $20,000 as requested – and later a man picked up the money from her.

Later, a female called back and was angry at the elderly woman for not sending $20,000.

The victim was then transferred to a second FBI agent named “Tom” who convinced her to withdrawn another $15,000 from the bank. A second man arrived at her home and picked up the $15,000. He also wrote a phony receipt for the two cash payments.

The victim was contacted a third time by the scammers who said they needed an additional $4,000. The victim was told to purchase 9 gift cards totaling $4,000 and email the card numbers to them.

The woman did as she was instructed. Altogether, she sent the fraudsters $34,000.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify the scammers.

  1. The sorry a** bank who allowed these sizable, multiple withdrawals, so close together, should have suspected something was not right- especially with an ” elderly ” person as the article stated. The individuals responsible for allowing these large sums, should be disciplined, re- trained or terminated and the bank should have to reimburse this poor lady! Obvious these employees are there only for a paycheck….

      • Here we go again, another libtard blaming the victim instead of the criminal. If we could all only be as intelligent as Tell the Truth this would have never happened! Pride besets the fall my friend…

  2. EVIL, pure EVIL! Those thieves will suffer in the lake of fire eventually. 😥

  3. This is happening too often to the elderly. I know this personally. What they need is a task force that goes after these evil people. And if she has children, she should consult with them on any large amount of money. Most elderly people are secretive about their finances. I am sixty-six, and I trust my children at this stage of my life to help me with money matters. I don’t want to wait until I am dead for them to get what I have.
