High-Speed Chase On US 70 Ends In Arrest And Vehicle Seizure

JOHNSTON COUNTY – A high-speed chase on US Highway 70 Thursday morning ended with a Clayton man in custody and his vehicle seized under North Carolina’s Run and Done law.
Darian Isaiah McCormick, 29, of Ainsley Court in Clayton, was arrested by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office after reportedly leading deputies on a pursuit that began in Selma and ended near Clayton.

The incident started around 8:41 a.m. on September 11, when a deputy observed a Toyota Camry driving erratically on Buffalo Road near the Selma Oil Terminals. Authorities say the driver, later identified as McCormick, veered into oncoming traffic at high speeds and went airborne over the railroad tracks on Buffalo Road at US 70, narrowly avoiding multiple cars.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop as McCormick turned onto US 70 westbound, however he refused to stop and accelerated to speeds nearing 90 mph. The chase continued until McCormick exited at Ranch Road, where he lost control and spun out at the end of the ramp. Officers quickly boxed in the vehicle and took him into custody.

A small amount of suspected marijuana was reportedly found in the car.
McCormick faces several charges, including felony fleeing to elude arrest, resisting a public officer, reckless driving with wanton disregard, speeding, improper passing and possession of marijuana.

He was held on a $200,000 secured bond.
No injuries were reported during the incident.

There are drivers like this on Highway 70 every single morning weaving in and out of traffic and barely missing the cars in front or behind them. There is going to be a major incident before long if something isn’t done. I appreciate the JoCo LEOs for doing all they can do to keep us safe. Some unmarked cars between 6:30am and 8:30am and then again between 3:30pm and 6:00pm would eliminate a majority of these offenders. I have seen people pass on the shoulder of the road and in exit lanes. I have seen cars have to slam on brakes just to avoid the merging speeders. It is ridiculous!
He couldn’t control his car because he was trying to pull his pants up////
So sincerely sick of this 💩. I never thought I’d see the day that 1,2,3,4 high speed chases locally a day would become the norm. I’m sick to death of having to share the roads and highways with these people that have no regards for other people’s lives and I’m sick to death of people like this getting a little tap on the wrist and within no time getting right back out on the streets repeating the same stupid crimes. Sure, the car gets seized. Ok. They will just steal another or drive someone else’s. Lock their arses up for a very long time. Judges and magistrates, stand on principles. Protect us and our families from this scum. And for Gods sakes, to this criminal, pull ya d*mn pants up.
It appears this overgrown child still lives with mommy and daddy. I guess they don’t care either.
Give him 20 years…..no bond and no parole
100% agree!
They go to court that way, bedroom shoes too
Dis be wack. He jes be drivin to see his baby mamma and da po po roll up on him like he be a criminal. It be a good ting it won’t a foot persoot or dat would have been over earlier. His pants be fallen down.
Just another doctor going to work to save lives.
Great job joco sheriff dept. it’s ridiculous these drivers with no concern about others safety. These comments are crazy since when does clothing etc have to be the topic.
@Se…clothing is a huge part of the topic!!! I don’t have to look any further than his pants hanging down to his knees to see his morals or lack thereof. Quite frankly, it makes it quite awkward, for example, I’m standing in line at local store to pay for gas while Mr “See my Boxer Skid Marks” is standing in front of me to get a black and mild. Do you enjoy seeing nasty drawers or arse cracks because I sure don’t. The old saying is “don’t judge a book by its cover!” Ok, I won’t but when the book is spread wide open I can kinda get a great insight on the content. I said what I said he needs to pull his d*mn pants up.
I assume this idiot took off because of the worry of a simple possession marijuana charge. Now, this clown, has a slew of charges.
And pull ya da*n pants dude.
Haha baby daddy don’t know how to stay out of trouble. He gets what he deserves! Karma a b**ch & this is where it all leads. Dumba** can’t keep himself out of trouble, he will never change. S**t I’m glad my son wasn’t in the vehicle. & yes he still lives with his mommy & daddy lol
Can’t run in them jeans. Should be a violation to wear them like that in public. Disrespectful thug
The act of recklessness driving and endangering others is inexcusable but who am I to say this constitutes him as a thug. To the people in this thread, your racism is bleeding through you words and hiding behind your anonymity is laughable. Save you judgement and outrage for issues that actually impact you. This young man will stand trial and justice served. My prayer is for the young man to use this time to make some real life changes.
There isn’t a racist comment here. Stop projecting. Your grasp of the English language is laughable.
To Mr/Mrs Click, apparently you and I aren’t reading the same article comments or you are completely oblivious to what undertones are… “They will just steal another car” “They also go to court like this” “Thugs”, I am only responding to the generalizations reserved for “people “ who look like him, historically. So let me double down on my original statement and ask that YOU stop projecting your inability to grasp context onto others.
They refers to more than one person. There is nothing racist about referring to more than one person. I read it as the group being referred to is a group of law breakers. Law breakers come in all shapes, sizes and colors. You are reading it as racist. That makes you judgemental. See how that works?
Thank you JoCo SD.
