Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Tractor-Trailer On I-95

BENSON – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer early Sunday morning on Interstate 95 near Benson.

The incident occurred just before 2:00 a.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 79. According to initial reports, the victim was hit by a southbound tractor-trailer and was pronounced dead at the scene.

As a result of the crash, all southbound traffic was diverted off I-95 at Exit 79 (NC 50) for several hours while the North Carolina State Highway Patrol conducted an investigation.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
