Bo Harris Receives Eagle Scout Award
SMITHFIELD – Chadwick Boyd (Bo) Harris, Jr. recently received his Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America. He is the son of Emily and Chad Harris of Smithfield.

Bo joined Scouts as a Tiger Cub when he was six years old. As a Cub Scout, he earned the Arrow of Light. After Cub Scouts, he continued in Boy Scouts with Troop 77. In 2023, Bo completed a 65-mile hike at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, an experience he will remember for the rest of his life.
Bo has been an active Scout during his time with Troop 77, serving in different leadership roles like Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. He was an active participant in the troop’s service projects and fundraisers, including placing flags to honor Veterans for Memorial Day.
For Bo’s Eagle Scout Project, he built wood duck nesting boxes with his grandpa, Steve Woodard. He hung the nesting boxes on Holt Lake to preserve and protect the local wood duck population while providing nesting and habitat solutions.
Bo is currently a junior at Neuse Charter School in Smithfield, where he is a member of the National Honor Society. He plays soccer, basketball, and baseball at Neuse Charter. After high school, Bo plans to attend college and pursue a career in sports broadcasting.

My eldest two nieces are about his age, and they play high school sports at Neuse Charter School. Congratulations to all of you, as you are all such outstanding young people!
Congratulations! That is an outstanding achievement! Most people have no idea how much time and effort it takes to earn The Eagle Scout Award. Best wishes and God bless!
Congrats to this young scout! This is a very serious life achievement and it will pay him back over his adult life.
An important editorial note, the organization is NOT named the Boy Scouts of America anymore; this name has been completely discontinued in all official capacities. The lead organization is now called Scouting America, and the program has been renamed Scouts BSA. This is important because it reflects our pivot towards inclusivity of all youth participants. Once again, congrats to Bo!
^^ Thanks for reminding us that they have become woke.
Yes, it is a shame. I mean they already have Brownies and Girl Scouts. Leave these young men alone to develop and become honorable upstanding citizens. People try to twist everything into some kind of hidden agenda against minorities and women. None the less, This is a VERY impressive achievement for this young man taking hours and hours of hard work.
Yes, this change is why I will never want my grandson in this organization.
That organization is dying now that the woke virus has been injected into it.
Congrats to this young man!
Well, we don’t have to worry about this outstanding young man, he’ll never end up a punk in some disgusting street gang..I did the hike at Philmont many years ago, it’s hard and rewarding..Bo you’re going places in life, enjoy the ride and all the best to you and thanks to your parents for raising a star.
