$200,000 In Copper Stolen From Johnston County Solar Farm

WILLOW SPRING — Authorities are investigating the theft of a large quantity of copper wiring from a solar farm in western Johnston County.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, the theft was discovered on September 10 at a solar facility located in the 13900 block of NC Highway 50, near Sanders Road.

Investigators say thieves removed copper wiring from multiple solar panels across the site. The estimated value of the stolen materials is approximately $200,000.

The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between July 16 and September 10. No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

  1. It took 2 months to discover the theft?!? With the copper removed, the panels won’t operate. And for 2 months no one noticed that there was no electricity being generated?!?! Sniff, sniff… smells like an inside job to me. I bet they file a large in$urance claim.

  2. Wow, did an audit into why the power being generated under spec discover this? Why did it take so long? Or even worse, was it discovered for some other obvious reason? How’s the lack of security? I live right down the road and don’t experience a crime issue where I live. Just wow.
