Firefighters Contain 5-Acre Blaze

CLAYTON – A fast-moving grass fire was reported Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Byrd and Buffalo Roads in Johnston County. Fueled by extremely dry conditions, the blaze quickly spread across approximately five acres.

Fire crews from Northside and Wilson’s Mills departments responded swiftly to the scene. With the help of a North Carolina Forest Service fire-plow unit, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within an hour. A drone operated by Johnston County Emergency Management provided aerial support, helping responders track the fire’s direction and detect remaining hot spots.

The incident was one of several wildfires reported across Johnston, Wake, and Harnett counties during the day, as the areaa continues to deal with heightened wildfire risks.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported and no buildings were damaged.
