Police Investigating Death Of Smithfield Man

SMITHFIELD – Authorities are investigating the death of a 56-year-old Smithfield man who was found deceased in his home.

Family members returning from a birthday celebration discovered the man unresponsive inside the bathroom of his Franklin Drive residence on October 12. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Smithfield Police said there were no immediate signs of foul play. However, the official cause of death has not yet been determined and remains under investigation by the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
