SELMA – Authorities have identified a man fatally struck by a freight train last week in Selma as James Daniel Tyner, age 40.

The tragic incident occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 7, near the U.S. Highway 70 overpass behind the Johnston Plaza shopping center. Emergency crews were called to the scene at approximately 5:15 a.m., where Tyner was pronounced dead.

Selma Police said it appears Mr. Tyner was asleep on the tracks when he was fatally struck. No signs of foul play were found, and the investigation has now been officially closed.
