High Speed Pursuit Suspect Escapes On Foot

SELMA – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify the driver of a stolen vehicle that led officers on a high speed chase.

The pursuit started around 3:11 a.m. Tuesday on US 70 near Buffalo Road in Selma.

A sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a 2017 Ford Escape that had been reported stolen in Guilford County. The driver refused to stop, instead accelerating to speeds of approximately 100 miles per hour while traveling eastbound.

While traveling on US 70 near Princeton the suspect suddenly stopped and fled on foot.

Law enforcement officers attempted to locate the individual but he avoided apprehension.

Authorities said they seized a 45 caliber handgun, ammunition, credit card and iPhone from the vehicle.
