Driver Trapped In Crash

NEWTON GROVE – The driver of a large box truck was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident. The incident was reported around 6:30pm Thursday on US 701 near Newton Grove.

Newton Grove Fire arrived to find the box truck had slammed into a tree in the edge of a swamp. The driver was pinned in the cab.

Fire and EMS personnel worked to extricate the driver. The victim was taken by ambulance to a park in Newton Grove where a Life Flight helicopter had landed. The victim was airlifted to WakeMed in Raleigh.

The State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
