Selma Man Arrested For Burglary, Causing Extensive Damage At Business

MICRO — A Selma man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a vacant business in Micro, causing significant damage and stealing numerous items.

Charles William Baker, 51, of Batten Farm Road, Selma, was taken into custody on September 17 following an early morning burglary report at Micro Summit Processors located on South Railroad Street. The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at approximately 7:18 a.m.

According to authorities, Baker is suspected of unlawfully entering the property and cutting copper from several refrigeration cooler units, resulting in an estimated $500,000 in damage and repair costs. In addition to the copper, Baker reportedly stole a pump, pressure washer, and approximately 100 steel meat hooks.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Baker attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.

Baker faces three felony charges, including breaking and entering, larceny, and possession of burglary tools. He was held on a $50,000 secured bond.

  1. Here is an old concept…”You shall not steal”…that’s a simple concept. If we cannot get the basics down, we are in trouble from the drop.

  2. There they go again. Magistrates placing low bonds on individuals that are repeat offenders. This is why, just this week, the NC Legislators passed a bill holding magistrates and judges accountable for their actions on setting bonds. Now it just has to pass the Governor’s signature, but if he does not pass the bill, I am sure the Legislators will override his veto.

  3. Once again, a career criminal is allowed to roam around and cause destruction. When will the criminal act be dealt with in a way to ensure there will be no further violations?

  4. We all pay for this in insurance costs. He has no means of paying for the damages he’s caused and he doesn’t care. In some countries, he would be missing body parts for stealing.
