Multi-Car Crash Shuts Down NC 42 East

KENLY – A multi-vehicle accident early Thursday morning closed NC 42 East near NC 222 for nearly two hours and sent at least one person to the hospital.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. near the entrance of the 42 Express Food Mart. According to witnesses, a passenger car struck the back of a pickup truck that was turning. The impact caused the truck to spin and land on the hood of an oncoming vehicle. A fourth car then swerved to avoid the scene and hit the rear of the first vehicle.

Emergency crews responded quickly, and one driver was taken to the hospital. Their condition has not yet been released.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office diverted traffic in both directions while crews worked to clear the scene. The road reopened around 7:30 a.m.

The NC State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Charges are pending based on the outcome of the investigation.
