Driver Flees After Crashing Into Johnston County School Bus

MICRO — The State Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run collision with a Johnston County school bus Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred on Pittman Road as Bus 625, transporting students from North Johnston High School, stopped at a railroad crossing. While the bus was stationary, it was rear-ended by a pickup truck traveling in the same direction.

According to authorities, the driver of the truck immediately reversed after the crash, driving down an embankment and through an electric fence before fleeing the scene.

Several students aboard the bus recorded the fleeing vehicle using their cell phones, but due to the truck backing away from the scene, the license plate was not visible in the footage.

No injuries were reported among the students or driver, and damage to the bus was described as minimal. After a safety assessment, the bus was permitted to resume its afternoon route.

The Micro Fire Department and Johnston County EMS responded to the scene.

Anyone with information about the hit and run suspect is urged to contact the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

    • How about, another hit & run. Most of the bus accidents haven’t been caused by bus drivers. We have and epidemic of flee & allude and hit & run. Our roads have become lawless and I don’t believe that some of these people care about the consequences that they cause others to suffer for their reckless actions.
