One Dead After Vehicle Slams Into Tree

KENLY – A fatal crash early Sunday morning near Kenly claimed the life of one passenger and sent the driver to the hospital following a single vehicle collision on Weaver Road, just off U.S. Highway 301.

The driver lost control, veered off the right side of the road, and slid through a ditch before striking a large pine tree.

The passenger, who was initially pinned inside the wreckage, died at the scene. Their name has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

After the midnight crash, the driver left the scene on foot, prompting a search by the Highway Patrol, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, and Kenly Police Department. The driver was located about a mile away, injured, and was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation, and charges against the driver are pending.
