Wastewater Spill Reported After Sewer Line Is Damaged By Construction
JOHNSTON COUNTY – A construction mishap led to the discharge of approximately 3,000 gallons of untreated wastewater into a local waterway on Monday, Oct. 6 according to Johnston County officials.
The spill occurred in the 100 block of 110 Ellsworth Drive in Garner, where a private contractor reportedly damaged a public sewer main during construction work. The breach allowed untreated wastewater to flow into surface water connected to Mountain Branch, a tributary of Middle Creek.
The North Carolina Division of Water Resources was notified Monday and is currently reviewing the incident.
