Clayton Man Accused Of Fleeing From Deputies On UTV

CLAYTON – A 24-year-old Clayton man was arrested after he reportedly tried to outrun law enforcement officers on a utility task vehicle (UTV).

Cole David Bevelacqua of Windham Way was arrested following the incident on July 25 around 10:18 p.m.

A Johnston County deputy sheriff was on routine patrol in the 11400 block of Cleveland Road when he spotted a Polaris UTV nearly collide with another vehicle on Cleveland Road.

The deputy tried to stop the UTV operator, but he sped away. Bevelacqua reportedly slammed on the brakes and then accelerated several times during the chase. The pursuit continued onto S. Shiloh Road, where the operator eventually came to a halt.

Authorities said Bevelacqua registered 0.20 on the Breathalyzer, more than double the legal limit of 0.08.

The UTV was seized.

Bevelacqua was given a $30,000 bond on the charges.

No injuries were reported.
