Untreated Wastewater Spill Reported Near Four Oaks
FOUR OAKS – A pipe failure in Johnston County’s wastewater system led to the release of approximately 4,000 gallons of untreated wastewater into a local waterway on September 30, county officials reported.
The spill occurred in the 600 block of Hannah Creek Road outside of Four Oaks and reached an unnamed tributary that feeds into Hannah Creek. According to Johnston County Public Utilities, the cause of the discharge was a material failure in a pressure sewer main.
The incident was reported to the North Carolina Division of Water Resources on the same day, in compliance with state law. State regulators are currently reviewing the incident.
