Dunn Woman Charged In Theft And Drug Case

BENSON — A Dunn woman is facing multiple charges after she was arrested in connection with a theft and drug possession case in Johnston County.

Emily Matthews, 37, who has listed addresses on U.S. Highway 301 North and McLamb Road in Dunn, was taken into custody on September 13. She is charged with felony obtaining property by false pretense, felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor larceny, and misdemeanor possession of stolen property.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Matthews is accused of stealing a Craftsman electric weedeater and lithium battery — valued at $198 — from a residence in the 11000 block of NC Highway 96 South in the Meadow community on September 10. Investigators say she later sold the stolen items to an unsuspecting buyer for $60.

Three days later, a deputy spotted Matthews in a parking lot on East Parrish Drive in Benson. While being detained, a small amount of suspected methamphetamine was reportedly found concealed in her bra.

Matthews was booked into the Johnston County Jail under a $16,000 secured bond.
