The reason for Jackson’s non-disciplinary suspension of 22 days that preceded her announcement was not given in a release from the city on Wednesday.

“To ensure continuity of operations, City Manager Justin Hembree has appointed Major/Acting Chief Nicholas Simmons to serve as interim chief of the Dunn Police Department,” the release stated.

“We wish Chief Jackson the best in her future endeavors and are fortunate to have someone as qualified as Interim Chief Simmons to lead the Police Department,” Hembree said.

The City of Dunn will immediately begin the search for its next chief of police.
