CLAYTON – Volunteers placed 1500 American flags on a grassy spot along Veteran’s Parkway (NC 42 West), Saturday afternoon, as part of the 6th annual JoCo Flags for Heroes.

Following comments from community leaders, including Clayton Mayor Jody McLeod, the two hundred or so folks of all ages grabbed bundles of flags and carefully placed them into waiting flag stands in the open field. It took less than an hour for the area to be transformed into a waving field of red, white and blue.

A number of those who attended were later treated to tethered hot air balloon rides to admire the beauty from above.

The event is sponsored each year by the Clayton Rotary and Cleveland School Rotary and underwritten by businesses and individuals in the community.
