NAACP Young Adult Committee Partners With Boys & Girls Club To Launch Hygiene Drive & Closet Initiative

SELMA – The NAACP Young Adult Committee, in collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club of Johnston County, successfully completed a county-wide hygiene drive to support local youth, culminating in the delivery of hygiene kits to every student in the Club’s
summer camp program on June 6.

Thanks to a strong partnership between the NAACP and the Johnston County community, including generous contributions from surrounding counties and local businesses the initiative created 88 customized hygiene kits. Each kit was thoughtfully prepared to meet the basic hygiene needs of children and young teens participating in the Club’s summer camp.

In addition to individual kits, the effort also established a permanent hygiene closet within the Boys & Girls Club of Johnston County. This resource will help ensure that students have ongoing access to essential personal care items throughout the year, reducing barriers to health
and confidence.

“We believe that no child should have to worry about basic necessities,” said Natasia McLean, Chair of the NAACP Young Adult Committee. “By meeting these needs head-on, we’re not only supporting students’ well-being but also fostering a culture of dignity and respect.”

The hygiene drive marks the beginning of an ongoing commitment to community health and youth empowerment. The NAACP Young Adult Committee and the Boys & Girls Club plan to continue collaborating on similar initiatives in the future.

  1. I think work like this should be applauded and encouraged. My question is, why would a decent parent ever allow their child’s basic hygiene needs go unmet ?
