HICKORY, N.C. — An 11-year-old from Benson has earned a national crown. Saylor-Claire Herring, daughter of Corby and Ericka Herring, was named the 2025 American United Miss Preteen during the national pageant held September 12–13 in Hickory, North Carolina.

Representing North Carolina, Saylor-Claire competed against contestants from across the country in a range of judged events, including interview, casual wear, evening gown, fitness, fun fashion, state wear, and photogenic categories.

She earned several individual accolades throughout the competition, including the Casual Wear Award, Fitness Award, Color Photogenic Award, and Overall Black and White Photogenic Award.

After advancing through the Top 6 and Top 3 finalist rounds, Saylor-Claire was ultimately crowned the national winner of the Preteen division.

In her role as national titleholder, she plans to travel to different states promoting her personal platform, “For the Love of Baby Conner,” which raises awareness about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The initiative is named in memory of her late cousin, Conner Ryan, who died of SIDS at just two and a half months old.

In addition to her advocacy work, Saylor-Claire plans to focus on community service efforts and giving back locally throughout her reign.

The American United Miss national pageant is directed by Amber Duncan and Erica Hegler.
