Tractor-Trailer Involved In Serious I-95 Crash

BENSON – A serious collision involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle on Interstate 95 remains under investigation by the State Highway Patrol. The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. Monday, just south of the Hannah Creek Road bridge.

Initial reports indicate a northbound passenger car attempted an illegal U-turn at a median crossover and pulled into the path of a southbound tractor-trailer. The semi struck the car, then crossed the median, traveled across both northbound lanes, and crashed into the woodline near the Benson Wastewater Treatment Station.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was trapped inside the mangled cab. Emergency crews from Benson and Four Oaks Fire Departments worked to free the driver, who was then placed on a stretcher and rushed by ambulance to the hospital. The driver’s condition has not been released.

The driver of the passenger vehicle reportedly was not injured.

Johnston County Emergency Management and a foam truck from the Selma Fire Department also responded to the scene as a safety precaution.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
