School Bus Collides With Garbage Truck; No Students Onboard

CLAYTON – A Johnston County school bus was involved in a traffic collision Monday afternoon after reportedly crossing the center line and striking a garbage truck traveling in the opposite direction on Covered Bridge Road near Pritchard Road.

No students were on board Bus #646 at the time of the incident. Both drivers were evaluated by Johnston County EMS personnel at the scene and were not seriously injured.

Due to extensive vehicle damage, the roadway was completely blocked. Johnston County Sheriff’s deputies redirected traffic for nearly two hours.

The bus driver was cited by the State Highway Patrol.

This was the third school bus accident reported in Johnston County on Monday.
