Police Investigating US 70 Road Rage Shooting Incident

WILSON’S MILLS – Police are investigating a road rage shooting incident on US 70 in Wilson’s Mills. Police Chief A.Z. Williams said the incident happened around 7:30am Wednesday just before the Wilson’s Mills Road exit.

A law enforcement officer and his K-9 search for evidence on US 70 near Wilson’s Mills Road following a road rage shooting on March 5, 2025.

A female motorist was driving westbound in her silver Hyundai SUV when she encountered an irate driver in a red pickup in the lane beside her, Chief Williams said. The driver shouted an expletive at her before firing one shot from a handgun out his driver’s side window.  Luckily, the victim was not struck.

After the shooting, the suspect exited onto Wilson’s Mills Road. The victim took the next exit at Swift Creek Road where she was able to get behind the suspect’s red pickup as it traveled on Wilson’s Mills Road towards Clayton.

The victim was able to capture a cell phone photo of the vehicle and license plate number.

Chief Williams said the driver was later located and the investigation is ongoing.

“This violent act is being treated with the seriousness that it deserves. Though no one was injured, the fact that someone would be so brazen as to pull a firearm on another driver is reprehensible,” Chief Williams told The Johnston County Report.

The Clayton Police Department and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the initial scene investigation and subsequent search for evidence.

Officers believe the road rage shooting was isolated, however police would like to speak with any motorist who may have witnessed the incident or had a similar encounter on US 70 they have not reported to law enforcement.

  1. Boy joco sure is growing, glad we have all those new subdivisions and apartments to thin my chances of being shot.

  2. Just leave people alone, as a person who drives for a living there are plenty of jerks on the road, and risking your life isn’t worth it.

  3. Shooting at people is not an ok thing. People are evil and need to be handled accordingly. Find this man and get him off the road before he hurts someone!!

  4. I drive the speed limit. One morning on my way to church I was driving down 70A doing the posted limit. When I turned onto 70 the vehicle behind me with plastic taped on most windows tried to ram my car. I was able to avoid any collision. That car turned into Bojangles. I did call 911 buy I wasn’t going into Bo’s to get the tag number. They never caught the person.
