Former Congressman Wiley Nickel Speaks At Veteran Town Hall In Johnston County
WILSON’S MILLS – Friday evening, former Congressman and US Senate candidate Wiley Nickel spoke to an audience of about 80 veterans and community members gathered for a town hall in Wilson’s Mills.
“President Trump and Elon Musk are cutting 80,000 staff from the V.A., and there’s no way that will lead to better care or more access to care for veterans in North Carolina,” said former Congressman Wiley Nickel. “Veterans in our community were the first to step up to serve and defend our nation, but we’re failing to deliver on the promises we’ve made to them and their families. In the Senate, I’m going to be a voice for them; to expand their care, not cut it. To fix what’s broken, not burn it down. Thom Tillis may be silent on what’s going on with these cuts to veterans’ care, but I’m going to do everything I can to fight it.”
Other speakers at the event included: Dr. Kyle Horton, physician with the Department of Veterans Affairs; Scott Peoples, former Republican, veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division and Board Member for Veterans for Responsible Leadership; and Heather Sprague, a local mom.
Nickel took live questions from the crowd. Questions focused on issues like proposed cuts to the Veterans Affairs department, health care coverage, and the delayed status of the VA facility under construction in Garner.

Any discussion on the DoD recalling veterans on standby to go be boots on the ground in Ukraine?

I use the VA and Im fine. He cut the job of catering to transexuals.
I’ve seen no interruptions in my VA care.
Give it time, I’ve had to wait longer to see a PC physician. Community Care waits are longer and some physicians are not doing CC anymore.
I’ve had no problem with the VA. Trump did more for veterans in his first term than last 50 years of Presidents of both parties. Civilian doctors have longer waiting list now as well. Willie’s not gonna help the veterans Democrats are the party of talk no action
Yes, that is right. Democrats have been proven to be liars, where as our current President Trump has proved himself to be dedicated to fulfilling promises.
