Smithfield Approves Annexation Of 18-Acre Parcel

SMITHFIELD — The Smithfield Town Council has approved the voluntary annexation of an 18.1-acre tract of land in West Smithfield, following a request from the property owner.
Heath Street #215 of Four Oaks submitted the annexation request for the parcel located on Barbour Road, directly across from Bella Square. The company also owns a neighboring 16-acre tract that was previously annexed into the town limits.
The council approved the measure during a public hearing held on September 2, where no one spoke in opposition to the request.
Town officials noted that no development plans have been submitted for the newly annexed parcel at this time.
The move expands the town’s municipal boundaries and may pave the way for future growth in the Barbour Road corridor.
