Councilman Calls For Traffic Enforcement On Pace Street

SMITHFIELD — Concerns about traffic safety in West Smithfield prompted Town Councilman Roger Wood to call for increased enforcement and signage during the September 2 meeting of the Smithfield Town Council.

Wood, a resident of West Smithfield, raised the issue of vehicles parking along Pace Street, which he described as a narrow, dimly lit road with a curve that poses a hazard to both drivers and residents.

According to Wood, eight vehicles were improperly parked along the street on the day of the council meeting, blocking visibility and creating what he described as a dangerous situation—particularly for the elderly residents who live along Pace Street.

“We need to do something… It’s bad,” Wood said during the meeting.

Councilman Wood asked Police Chief Pete Hedrick to begin traffic enforcement efforts in the area. Additionally, Assistant Town Manager Kim Pickett was instructed to begin the process of installing “No Parking” signs along Pace Street to help prevent future safety issues.

  1. So am I understanding this right, a street that currently allows parking has now been declared a no parking zone on the say-so of one councilman who lives on it? Is there any evidence of this claimed danger?
