Fire Heavily Damages Smithfield Apartment; No Injuries Reported

SMITHFIELD — Firefighters responded to a blaze late Tuesday that caused significant damage to an apartment in the 200 block of Hartley Drive in West Smithfield.

Smithfield Fire Chief Jeremey Daughtry said firefighters were able to contain the fire shortly after arrival, preventing it from spreading to neighboring units.

While the primary apartment sustained heavy fire damage, an adjacent unit experienced only minor smoke damage. No injuries were reported.

The Smithfield Fire Department was assisted by mutual aid units from the Selma Fire Department and Wilson’s Mills Fire Department.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
