Victim Identified In Fatal Train-Pedestrian Collision

SMITHFIELD — Authorities have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a freight train in Smithfield on Sunday, October 3.

Smithfield Police confirmed that the victim was 55-year-old Charles Jeffrey Ward of Smithfield. Ward was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident, which occurred around 12:43 p.m. near Fuller Street.

Police Chief Pete Hedrick said the investigation into the circumstances of the collision is still ongoing.
