Town Council Approves Extension Of Cell Tower Lease
SMITHFIELD – The Smithfield Town Council has approved a new lease agreement with T-Mobile, extending the company’s use of a town-owned cell tower located behind the Smithfield Police Department.
The current lease, which was set to expire next year, will be renewed starting in July 2026. Under the new terms, T-Mobile will pay the town $46,001.51 annually, with a 3% increase each year. The initial term of the agreement is five years, with the option to renew for up to four additional five-year periods.
If the Town decides not to continue with any of the renewal terms, it must provide T-Mobile with a 90-day written notice of cancellation.
The original agreement between the Town and T-Mobile dates back to 2004, when the first-year lease payment was $24,000, also with a 3% annual increase.
