Serious Crash On I-95 Injures One, Damages Bridge Near Four Oaks

FOUR OAKS – One person was seriously injured Sunday morning in a crash on Interstate 95 that also damaged a bridge near Four Oaks, prompting traffic delays.

The crash occurred around 10:15 a.m. when a white Chevrolet pickup truck traveling southbound veered off the roadway into the median and struck a support pier for the Parkertown Road bridge.

Firefighters from Four Oaks and Benson worked carefully to remove the driver from the wreckage. Johnston County EMS transported the injured person to the hospital. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

The impact damaged a structural support on the Parkertown Road bridge, forcing officials to close the overpass temporarily. A North Carolina Department of Transportation bridge engineer was called to the scene to assess the damage.

Southbound traffic on I-95 experienced significant delays, with closures expected to last until around 3:30 p.m. as crews worked to clear the scene and ensure the bridge’s safety.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
