I-40 Rest Area Death Under Investigation

BENSON – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a person at the westbound Interstate 40 Rest Area near Benson.

Around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, June 14, an acquaintance found the body of a 33 year-old male unresponsive in a vehicle at the rest stop. The acquaintance call 911.

First responders performed life saving efforts but they were not successful.

The NC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has performed an autopsy to determine how the man died and is assisting the sheriff’s office with the investigation.

At last report, the cause of death has not been determined.

The name of the deceased has not been released.
