Johnston County Bridge Replacement Project Requires Detour

ARCHER LODGE – The Wendell Road bridge crossing Buffalo Creek in northern Johnston County will close starting Monday, September 8 for several months for reconstruction.

An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will demolish and replace the bridge north of Archer Lodge. Completed in 1940, the bridge has reached its service life and become functionally obsolete for modern traffic.

The road is expected to reopen next May. The detour will send drivers onto Wall and Lake Wendell roads to bypass the barricades.

Motorists should be careful near the work site and expect a longer commute using the detour.
