Smithfield Releases 2025–2026 Street Resurfacing List

SMITHFIELD — The Town of Smithfield has announced the list of streets scheduled for resurfacing during the 2025–2026 fiscal year. The work, which is part of the town’s ongoing infrastructure improvement plan, will be funded through a $2.4 million allocation in this year’s budget.

The resurfacing project will cover a broad range of streets across multiple neighborhoods. The full list includes:

Blocks 199–499 North Fifth Street
Blocks 100–399 East Johnston Street to South Fourth Street
Blocks 100–399 South Second Street to East Riverside
Blocks 500–799 South Fifth Street
Blocks 800–1999 South Fifth Street (patch work only)
Block 100 Wellons Street
Blocks 200–499 Sanders Street
Blocks 900–1200 South First Street
Blocks 900–1200 South Vermont Street
All of Underwood Avenue
All of Carolina Avenue
Blount Street to Midway Street
Blocks 800–899 Midway Street
Blocks 800–1000 Third Avenue
Blocks 800–999 West Street
Block 400 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
East Lee Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive

The town is expected to solicit bids for the project later this month, with a recommendation to award the contract potentially coming before the Town Council at its October 7 meeting.

Once a contractor is selected, the timeline for paving will depend heavily on weather conditions. Town officials hope to begin work promptly but noted that some streets may have to wait until after the winter months.
