Jerry Donnon Pettis

Jerry Donnon Pettis, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Transitions Hospice Care Center in Raleigh, NC. Born on January 26, 1938, in Chipley, Florida, he was the son of the late Dutch and Mary Pettis. Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved “sweetie pie,” Brenda Petit.
A proud graduate of Chipley High School, Class of 1958, Jerry went on to serve honorably in the United States Army from October 1958 to April 1962. Following his service, he worked as an equipment operator in various locations throughout North Carolina until his retirement in 1995.
Jerry will be remembered for his humility, warmth, and kindness. He never met a stranger and had a genuine love for people. Compassionate and thoughtful, he was known for his signature phrase: “I love you and God loves you, and there ain’t nothing you can do about it.” He always had a positive attitude and had great respect for everyone with whom he came in contact. Jerry will be greatly missed by his family which includes all of his friends.
He is survived by his brother, Bob Pettis; sister-in-law, Ellen Pettis; nephew, Jason Pettis; and great-nephew, Jeremy Pettis, all of Hesperia, California. He is also lovingly remembered by his adopted family: Henry and Mary Boyette of Mount Airy, NC; Allen Petit (Zoila) of Ft. Wayne, TX; Belinda Beasley of Pine Level, NC; and Daniel Beasley of Pine Level, NC; along with many cherished friends.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Selma Memorial Gardens. Rev. Billy Nowell will officiate.
Jerry’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
