Style Chronicles: Krystal Soularie

Style Chronicles: Krystal Soularie

The Co Report: Tell us about yourself. Who are you and what do you do?
Krystal Soularie: My name is Krystal Soularie and I am an upcoming fashion stylist and lifestyle blogger! I was born and raised in Houston, Tx by an amazing single parent mother. I have an older sister who is a chemical engineer (yay). Then there’s me, the creative, lol. Growing up I had a very emotional childhood. I struggled with depression and low self-esteem for many years. On top of that, I was diagnosed with ADHD and was immediately put on medication. Sadly the medication worsened my depression and caused me to be really angry. My mother began taking us to church when I was around 12 and that’s when I feel in love with God. On Sundays, I would go to church sometimes and stay for all three services. After getting saved, I told my mother I would cease the  ADHD medication and that I was going to be healed. God did just that for me. As time went on my love for fashion evolved. I’ve always been creative, but I realized early on one of my niches was putting garments together. My ultimate goal as a stylist is to make sure my client not only looks good but feels even better!

Screen Shot 2017-05-08 at 5.28.46 PMTCR: What’s the secret for putting together the perfect outfit?
Krystal: Whenever I’m considering what to wear I always start off with one item. Whether that’s a funky pair of heels, a structured blazer or a moto leather jacket. From there I build by asking myself questions such as, “How do you feel today? Are we going for Erykah Badu or Traci Ellis Ross? Do I feel like almost falling today, because I have not mastered walking in heels lol, or am I pulling out my shell toe Addidas and throwing it back today?

TCR: What are your four staple garments and/or accessories that you can’t live without?
Krystal: I cannot live with my moto leather/pleather jacket. It goes with any and everything! For an extra touch of spice throw a moto jacket on top of your outfit. You will go from, she’s cute to “Oh wow, bam Nene’s here, if you watch real housewives of Atlanta then you should catch this, lol. Next, I must always have a nice white button down shirt. If I could wear a white button-down shirt every day I would. This item is such a necessity for me. If I want to dress it up I can with a pair of pumps or rock a cute pair of converse to dress it down! Another must have is a pair of great fitting jeans. Don’t tell anyone, but I literally wear my gray 7 for all mankind jeans every week! They are so comfortable and really display my curves. Last but not least, on my must haves are a pair of gold hoops. I feel incomplete and naked if I don’t have my hoops on, especially now that I’m natural.

TCR: What are your current beauty must-haves?
Krystal: A few beauty must haves for me are my Nars tinted moisturizer, beauty blender, La Girl concealer (toffee and fawn) and Velvet Teddy matte lipstick by MAC.

TCR: Tell us about your hair! What are some of your go-to styles?
Krystal: I just recently went natural in November. I was transitioning for about 6 months before I did the big chop. This has probably been one of the most liberating things I’ve ever done. I wanted to be natural ever since Girlfriends first aired and I saw Traci’s fro. I would say yeah that’s me, big hair and fly. However, I have a medium fro right now so those dreams are still pending. My go to style right now are finger coils, but I’m branching out next month and finally trying flexi-rods.

TCR: Is there an outfit or garment piece in your closet that has a special of fun memory?
Krystal: I spent about ten years working in luxury retail, so I took full advantage of those perks (discounts). I purchased this beautiful black and white leather trimmed St.John cape. About two years ago on New Year’s Eve and wore it to church. Now, not a lot of young people know about St.John, it’s kind of an older-generation brand. I walked in church and the older women were staring me down, lol! They were looking at me as if to say, “ How did she get that new $1,500 cape from St.John?” Not knowing I only spent $100 dollars on it. People who would normally speak to me kind of turned their noses up at me. I was so shocked and found it hilarious. I don’t want to say the mothers were hating, but they were. Needless to say, I don’t wear the cape to church anymore, lol.
