Barringer To Run For US Congressional Seat

Lee County native, lawyer, and endurance athlete Paul Barringer announced Thursday that he will run for United States Congress as a Democrat for North Carolina District 13.

“Throughout my career, I’ve worked at the intersection of health care, law, technology, and government to make programs work better for the people they serve – and to solve problems by bringing people together, not dividing them,” said Barringer in a statement. “I’m running for Congress because, honestly, we need different representation. Maybe like you, I’ve been dismayed by current events the last few months – and I think we need a different, better direction for our country. All our current rep offers is more of the same.”

Barringer says he will run on a platform of bringing common sense and North Carolina values back to the United States Congress—fiscal responsibility, local control, and common-sense health and justice reforms, as well as advocating for Congress to reassert its role as the legislative branch in lawmaking and oversight.

Mr. Barringer is a husband, father, Eagle Scout, Sunday school teacher, and Appalachian trail thru-hiker whose family has had the same farm in Lee County since the 1800s. He grew up on the family farm, where he still manages tree farming operations while working as a healthcare consultant and as a lawyer representing individuals with disabilities pro bono in seeking benefits from the Social Security Administration. Paul has two children with his wife, Marcea.

North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District stretches along the edges of the Triangle, including all of Caswell, Person, Franklin, Johnston, Harnett, and Lee Counties along with portions of Granville and Wake.

The 13th Congressional District seat is currently held by Republican Brad Knott who is serving in his first term.
