Bracy Leaving To Accept Job With Cumberland County Schools
FAYETTEVILLE – During a special meeting this morning (Tuesday), the Cumberland County Board of Education unanimously voted to hire Dr. Eric C. Bracy as the next superintendent of Cumberland County Schools (CCS). Bracy is the current superintendent of Johnston County Public Schools, a position he has held since 2020.

Dr. Bracy has more than 25 years of experience in public education. From 2014 to 2020, Dr. Bracy served as superintendent of Sampson County Schools.
“From the outset of our search process, Dr. Bracy stood out from a deep and talented pool of candidates as the right leader at the right time for Cumberland County Schools,” said CCS Board Chairwoman Deanna Jones. “His unwavering commitment to student achievement, consistent track record of results across multiple districts and ability to build meaningful relationships reflect the type of strong, student-centered leadership our community values. We are proud to welcome him and confident that he will help take CCS to the next level.”
“I am deeply honored to serve as the next superintendent of Cumberland County Schools,” Dr. Bracy said. “This district has made tremendous progress, and I am excited to work alongside the Board, staff, families and community partners to build on that momentum. My family and I are thrilled to begin this next chapter and look forward to becoming an engaged and visible part of the CCS community. I’m ready to get to work and help move the district to even greater heights.”
Dr. Bracy holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from North Carolina Central University, a Master of Education degree from Virginia State University and a Doctor of Education degree from Nova Southeastern University.
He will begin his four year term on July 1, 2025, or shortly thereafter, depending on his release from Johnston County Public Schools.
Dr. Bracy is married to Janelle, a teacher, and together they have three daughters.
Dr. Bracy will replace Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly Jr. who announced his retirement in December 2024.
Dr. Bracy had applied for the superintendent of the Rock Hill, SC School District and was one of three finalists. Another candidate was selected for the position.

The guy just complained about getting a raise and then he starts putting in job applications in South Carolina in North Carolina. He’s a scam artist.
Renfrow was absolutely no different. School board and Commissioners just let it keep getting worse and worse, from replacement to replacement, and we foot the bill for it.
True
PRAISE THE LORD! THERE IS A GOD!!!.
Yay. Someone else’s problem! Carnival only stays in town for one week.
Two weeks at the Outlet Mall.
IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!!!!!
You’re a phony!
Please bring in David Pearce!
I totally agree
I guess that’s why he never returned calls about kindergarten bullies inuring other kindergarten students. He was a useless overpaid tool while in Johnston County. I hope that bullying isn’t an issue in your county because this man can’t control 5/6 year olds!
oh be quiet. That’s not his job. He would have asked the principal or area supervisor to address it. You’re just bias and disgruntled because something didn’t go your way. Sit back down.
David Pearce would be a horrible superintendent.
why? Evidence?
It’s obvious they are hiding behind the keyboard. Doesn’t even use their name
Yay for JCPS! Good riddance! Praying for Cumberland County Schools….
balanced budget, he petitioned the town and county for support, he encouraged higher standards…..I get he wasn’t the perfect person and clearly had some bias, especially when hiring his friends who were not good at their job. However, the school system has been stable and he has done a decent job. I’d be more worried about losing the accounting guy that came with him as he is very intelligent and would be difficult to replace. Besides, working with the crazy butt school board in joco should be evidence enough that he did an okay job.
Johnny red . Agree completely gotta try to keep the finance guy. Pay him to stay. Pearce has been doing all the dirty work that Bracy neglects, hire him as superintendent, he is knowledgeable in all areas. Get rid of the friends he brought in that are useless
We have to be loud and make them hear us-DAVID PEARCE!!!
Congrats to Dr. Bracy and CCS! As a teacher of one of his former districts (Sampson County Schools), I will always remember Dr. Bracy visiting our community (Ivanhoe in lower Sampson County) during the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. I can also remember him visiting our school quite regularly and having good rapport with our students. He appeared to be stern, relatable, and confident- all great qualities to have as a leader. His wife being an educator is a plus. Again, congrats and best wishes to Dr. Bracy and Cumberland County Schools!
Imagine coming in and having to deal with the circus of a board we have in place right now.
It’s a never ending circus….the minute we think things are finally getting to normal, some board member does something crazy.
Why do we even need to replace Bracy? The board of former teachers and a pharmacist are running the district anyway
So, what happens to all of these “friends” that he put in positions that they shouldn’t have been now that he is leaving. Do they follow him there? Asking for a friend.
It’s not a big deal. He hires people that will work well with him and do what he wants done. It’s not different than any other business or government job. Most people would hire friends and family if they were capable of doing a job
That’s not at all what was happening in this situation. He wasn’t just hiring people that he worked well with. He was moving people to positions based on what they did for him. You can take from that what you want. An investigation would uncover a LOT! Part of why he is moving on.
People say what they meant and are entitled To their own option. But Dr. Bracy is an amazing guy. He was superintendent of Sampson County Schools from 2014-2020. I honestly I think he is going to be a great accomplishment for the CCS.
Mr. Bracy I really do believe that you will be an excellent Superintendent for Cumberland County. I do believe that you will do your best and helping with the school systems. And I’d love to help
LETS GO!!!
I wonder if he is going to take the 5 Chevy Tahoe’s he bought for “county use”?
Why don’t we just hold the spot open and wait for our good friend Ronald Johnson to be released since he was done so wrong to begin with because of what he knew and was trying to uncover for the rest of the board/county to see!! That’s right they don’t want that bc they are all trolls and scam artist!
