Candidates Announced For Vacant Town Council Seat
SMITHFIELD – Three people applied for the District 1 council seat left vacant by the passing of Councilman Marlon Lee.
The applicants were introduced at the August 5 meeting of the Smithfield Town Council. They include Dr. Gettys Cohen Jr., Nanman Jeff Saminia and Felicia Baxter.
The Town will hold a Meet & Greet for citizens to meet the candidates on Tuesday, August 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Smithfield Town Hall.
The council is expected to fill the vacancy at their August 19 regularly scheduled meeting. The candidate will fill out the unexpired term ending in December 2025.

Dr. Gettys Cohen he is who I feel sure here that the late Councilman Marlon Lee would have wanted.
That “sentence” doesn’t make sense.
@click. You are always on here acting as if you are the grammar police! I’m quite sure if you’d think outside the box a bit, you’d understand what people are saying without all your criticism. In fact, I’m quite sure you know exactly what people are saying, but you want your moment of “fame” to let the world know you found a grammar error. Pluck the splinter out of your own eye first. I sincerely doubt you are perfect. Lighten up a bit.
