Assault Reported In Downtown Smithfield; One Man Injured
SMITHFIELD – A 37-year-old man was treated and released from the hospital after an early morning assault in downtown Smithfield, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. on Monday, September 1, in the 100 block of South Third Street, between Market and Johnston streets.
According to the Smithfield Police Department, the victim sustained a minor knife wound following an altercation with another individual. The person involved in the altercation reportedly called 911 and remained at the scene until officers arrived.
The case remains under investigation, and as of the latest report, no charges have been filed.

Wow, the newly formed downtown Smithfield “SOCIAL DISTRICT” and the “POINT OF NO RETURN” signage, too… Maybe it is past time to quickly reverse that late night mess?
The new SOCIAL DISTRICT in Downtown Smithfield, N.C. and “POINT OF NO RETURN” signage, really are leading to crime, while allowing drinking at night, this is not a good Mantra for our once very safe downtown areas.
