Bee To Blame For Truck Accident

Johnston County Report Photo by John Payne

SELMA – A man driving his 300,000-mile pickup truck, which he had purchased brand new and had just filled up with gasoline, found himself in a unique situation Thursday afternoon.

While traveling on Highway 96 north of Selma, a lone Bumblebee found its way into the open driver’s window and immediately became trapped inside the driver’s eyeglasses, which he was wearing.

The man, who was allergic to bee stings, quickly reacted by trying to free the buzzing bee. In the process, he lost control of his favorite truck and it overturned.

The bee escaped, uninjured.

The previously undented pickup ended up on its side, partially blocking Highway 96.

The driver was transported to a local hospital to be checked out while his old pickup lay in the middle of the highway dripping gasoline from the full tank of gas.

Selma Fire, Johnston County EMS, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

  1. This is a joke, right? Surely we haven’t sunk to the level that we blame a BEE for a driver’s incompetence?!?

  2. Tell the truth I would (bee )incompetent if there was a bee in my car I guess you aren’t allergic to bee’s and know of how close to death someone can become of anaphylactic shock as I am one of those people it causes you to panic especially if you have already been in anaphylactic shock before and know just how it feels. Not being mean or anything but if that is true of why he wrecked it’s nothing about incompetence at all.

  3. I’m allergic to bees. For it to be trapped at his eyes between his glasses was dangerous for his life. I understand his dilemma. I hope he was ok. It would have been great if he could have pulled over.
