SELMA – Several city streets will have a smoother ride after the Selma Town Council awarded a street resurfacing contract.

Three companies bid on the project. Coastline Contracting was the low bidder.

The project includes repaving N Sharpe Street from Griswold to Pecan Street; Pecan Street from Sharpe Street to the end; Brevard Street from Railroad Street to Waddell Street; Green Street from Railroad Street to Waddell Street; Reid Circle, and S. Sumner Street from Jones Street to Dogwood Drive.

The contract also includes drainage work on Sharpe Street prior to the resurfacing.

“We are looking forward to smoother streets throughout the Town of Selma as we fulfill the promise of fixing our infrastructure from bottom to top,” said Mayor Byron McAllister.  “Some of our sewer, water, and storm water projects around Selma are coming to a close.  Now it is time to put fresh pavement on top of the under-road work.  The approximately $467K bid award to Coastline Contracting, Inc. is the first round of major road work happening in the coming months.”

Councilmember Susan Parrish Watson said she has received a number of complaints about the condition of Oak Street. Mayor McAllister agreed, pointing out Oak Street is a NCDOT roadway, not a town-maintained street.
