During New York Fashion Week photographers not only look for amazing personal style, but they look for clothing that will stand out in their photographs – Bold colors, monotone palettes, unique patterns, fun textures and chic layers.  Getting dressed for fashion week is quite different from getting dressed from day to day. You want to stand out and you want to make a memorable first impression. During fashion week, most people will remember you by your outfit. When I first started being involved with fashion week, I began photographing the street style of the attendees. Season after season, I would remember people by the outfits they wore. You don’t have to look like you’ve walked out of the circus, but you do need to look as if you could be placed in a magazine spread. If you are new to the fashion week scene or if you’re not that comfortable with it then following this formula will help you get spotted by one of New York’s top street style photographers.

Don’t be afraid to match a bold colored bottom with a bold color top. It will totally work for New York Fashion Week. You will definitely see women pairing their chartreuse greens with a daring magenta. If wearing different colored pieces isn’t your thing, then do the opposite. Go monotone. Even though, this trend has been around for a while, it seems like the masses hasn’t quite caught on and they probably never will. I’ve seen people do this in many ways. They’ll either take one color and wear it from head to toe, such as white, or wear the same color, but in different hues such as a cobalt blue bottom paired with a sky blue top. Another great tip that I’ve learned is to add some sort of pattern to your ensemble. This will transform a flat appearing color scheme into an outfit that has depth. It also makes your outfit more interesting to the eye. Wearing a patterned piece on top of another patterned piece can seem  perplexing to some, but it’s a great way to stand out from the crowd. Adding textures is often times forgotten by many people, but just like patterns they assist in bringing more depth to a garment. Try combining a garment with embossing, lace or accessories that have fringe. Layers are another big key for looking stellar during New York Fashion Week. Layers assist in framing and telling the story of your ensemble.  Although you will see many people wearing a layering piece, don’t feel obligated to do so. If layering really isn’t your thing then go for statement jewelry pieces, statement shoes or a statement bag. This will also assist in creating a well-rounded look

Also, don’t forget about your shoes. One thing a lot of fashion-week-goers fail at is only curating their garments and not putting much NYFW - How to 5, New York Fashion Week Street Style, NYFW Street Style, NY fashion week Street Style, Street Style at the Lincoln Center, How to dress for fashion week, What to wear for NYC Fashion week, What to wear for New York City Fashion Week, What to wear to a fashion show, How to dress for a fashion show, Street Style NYFW SS15, Street Style NYFW, New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring 2015, New York Fashion Week Street Style September 2014, New York Fashion Week Street Style ss15, NYC Street Style, New York Street Style, New York City Street Style, Fashion Blogger, New York City Fashion Blogger, NYC Fashion Blogger, NYC wardrobe Stylistthought into their accessories and shoes. This part of your wardrobe is just as important as everything else. There are plenty of photographers that are strictly capturing accessory and shoe trends. If you’re already doing a bold outfit then it would be best to tone down your statement jewelry. When it comes to shoes, pick shoes with a unique color, pattern, interesting trimmings, or ones that have possess an uncommon heel.

During the festivities of fashion week you will be doing lots of standing and whole lot of maneuvering from one show to the next so it’s best to only stick with garments, colors, patterns and silhouettes that you are 100% comfortable in rocking.  It’s also important to look as if you didn’t over do it. You want it to come natural and unforced. My saying is to have 1 stand out piece and carefully curate your uniform from it. Remember, if you follow this formula you will most likely be photographed.

Do you have a formula that you go by when curating your fashion week outfit?
